Children don’t need sugar, they need flavor.
We are hard-wired to desire sugar, but why?
In nature, sugar is not abundant. It’s seasonal and can be very tricky to find. It comes primarily in the form of fruits and honey. It is found most readily just before the cool months when our bodies need excess fat to keep us warm.
It is why we so easily get addicted to it and why it’s so hard to get rid of once you start consuming it in excess.
One of the most profound habits you instill in your children is to eat (and desire) REAL FOOD and NOT be addicted to or reliant on sugar.
Some things we do in our house to accomplish this are to properly season foods so that their most potent flavor profile can come out.
We also make our own treats and always keep simple pleasures (like fruit popsicles) on hand.
